DISKMAG CHECK
-------------
Fall was really full of diskmags,
perhaps more mags were released than
quality demos. The competition is
very hard...
Mags reviewed:
- McDisk #5 by Alcatraz
- Stolen Data #9 by Anarchy
- Eternal #1 by Stage, Rebels and
Bronx
- Magbox #3 by Balance
- Readers' Dream by Leader Prod.
- Freedom Crack #10 by Zenith
- Top Secret #12 by Majic 12
- R.A.W #4 by Pure Metal Coders
--------------------------------------
McDisk issue 5 by Alcatraz
CODE & OUTLOOK: The first thing that
is different from the previous issues,
is the new design pixeled by Iluvatar.
Personally I didn't like the 'pop'
style, but at least it's something
different from the other mags. I was
not the only one, so they are likely
to change it. The only big difference
in the code is the new menu system.
It's like a tree, you can enter sub-
directories, so it's more synoptical.
McDisk has still the most intelligent
code of all the current mags. It had
some bugs in the previous issues, but
now they say, and it seems to be bug
free. The articles are well cut and
colorful, it looks very neat. Good
work Mad Butcher! The intro is funny
and the intro-pic by Iluvatar is a
simple, but very nice, like a
postcard.
CONTENT: McDisk #5 offers a great
variety of articles. I really liked
that each article is detailed, gives
the info you need. But I missed some
actual topics, nearly all the scene
articles are about the writer's
opinion on things like 'protecting
packs', etc. I found lots of
interesting interviews, that's a
strong side of McDisk.
ALL IN ALL, it is undoubtly one of the
best 3 mags, so keep supporting it!

Stolen Data issue 9 by Anarchy
CODE & OUTLOOK:
- Charts: This section is separated
from the mag, it's a simple, but nice
writer. A well drawn 'Charts' logo is
on the top and nice white fonts are
presenting the charts.
- Gallery: Not much to say, pictures
from Sauron, HOF, Danny and Facet. It
definitely increases the quality of
the mag, it's very aesthetical.
- Mag: The panel is quite nice and
original. I don't know what should it
represent, it looks like a brown stone
before a phonecord... Anyway, nice.
The code offers a big variety of
colors, font sizes and clip-arts and
gfx backgrounds.Notvery complex, but
it's a mag not a utility. And
besides, the content is the important.
The articles are well cut, only the
colors are very harsh, it's hard to
read. A very original picture opens
each part. It was painted by Zoom, a
painted girl is getting '3-d'...
CONTENT: It is the other mag that can
keep up with the Norwegian leader. It
offers a lot of professional articles.
Perhaps there are too few scene
related articles, what should be the
'main course' in a diskmag. But at
least the other subjects were quite
interesting.
ALL IN ALL, issue #9 was a big step,
big enough to get closer to RAW. I
think Stolen Data is a very
entertaining mag!

Eternal issue 1 by Rebels, Stage and
Bronx
CODE & OUTLOOK: Eternal is a very
nice mag. A monster head painted by
Kris/Rebels opens the mag. He also
made the design (not the monster...).
You can use 16 colors, clip-arts,
animated fonts, 2 font sizes. Very
nice mag, probably the most beautyful
of all. The problem is with the...
...CONTENT: They said they worked 4
months on the mag. For sure not the
articles kept them busy... But as it's
a first issue, they had to publish all
articles, and I'm sure they WILL get
lodsa support! But they should have
checked the'Hungary BBS list'.
Australia is no Hungary, not even
phonetically... The amount of adverts
is a good point. But in general the
content is not so superb it should
have been.
ALL IN ALL, It looks very very good
and as it was a 1st issue, with more
supporting it can be pushed up to the
level of the 'big ones'. It's the only
mag from Turkey.

Magbox issue 3 by Balance
CODE & OUTLOOK: The first thing
appearing is a picture by Connor,
showing a prehistoric animal. The
control panel is looking original,
like it was made by stones. The code
developed a lot since issue 1, now it
handles 16 colors, clip-arts, 2 font
sizes, search-function. All that a
mag needs. Sometimes they forget to
cut the articles.
CONTENT: Quality and quantity is
growing in every issue. It is a one
file mag, but the content is enough
for a full disk. It started out as a
message box, but from issue 4 they
will leave the messages due to the
lack of space. It shows that if a mag
gets supported, it can be a whole lot
more entertainment for both the
writers and the readers.
ALL IN ALL, it's still not on the
level of the leading bunch, but it
will be a helluva good mag if they
continue their efforts. Keep on
Wolfman!

Readers' Dream issue 1 by Leader Prod.
CODE & OUTLOOK: Oooooh bybe... First
impression: shit, 2nd impression:
total shit. I don't know why was it
neccessary for them to release a
mag-imitation like this... No article
is cut, it looks TOO colorful. Not my
type of a mag... It could be only
saved by the...
...CONTENT: But that's (if I can say)
even worse. Some articles about sex,
music, some adverts... That's all.
ALL IN ALL, as ADT would say "I can do
a better code in Protracker, draw
better in CED, and write better
articles in Japanese!"
Code: 4 points
Design: 2 points
Content: 1 point
Overall: 2 points

Freedom Crack issue 10 by Zenith
CODE & OUTLOOK: The outlook is
nothing special, a marble panel,
sometimes too dark colors. The code
has a major fault: the control. You
must enter the article's number NOT on
the keypad, but on the normal
keyboard. It is very irritating.
CONTENT: This is very average, too.
The biggest problem is its actuallity,
I thought I was reading half a year
old mag. Altough it's a full disk
mag, it offers only ca.30 real
articles, and not from the better
ones.
ALL IN ALL, a masterpiece of the
AVERAGE mag. I didn't like it too
much.

Top Secret issue 12 by Majic 12
CODE & OUTLOOK: Hmmm, it's the very
same as in the previous issues, so I
won't detail it now. But I must
mention that sometimes articles are
getting hard to read due to the rare
use of different colors. The intro is
a cooperation between Skid Row (code)
Majic 12 (gfx) and Rebels (music), and
it prepares you for a great reading
time. Baby's mag music is really
relaxing, a cool background music.
CONTENT: It's very impressive what
Majic 12 brought together on one disk.
This is what I call 'satisfaction for
everyone'. The new section is the
message-box, which was not so
neccessary in my opinion. Perhaps
they had no other ideas to put in the
mag? This is the 2nd issue with the
danish 'HQ'. And it's already
developed a lot since the previous
issue. The hardware and the coding
section are very good, professional.
This content makes Top Secret a mag
that the scene needs!
ALL IN ALL, Top Secret #12 was a
really fine issue!

R.A.W issue 4 by Pure Metal Coders
CODE & OUTLOOK: The king is back with
a new design by Fairfax and new code
by Perplex. The intro this time was
made by Andromeda. Mr.Hyde, Duel,
Fairfax and Lord Interface presented
us a great atmospheric intro, really
suits a leading mag. There is a very
very nice mountain pic by Fairfax.
The loader picture was painted by
Facet. What to say? Pure Facet
quality, one of his best works. The
usual 'Welcome' piccy by Fairfax is
fine as always. As R.W.O said 'he's
the med-rez king'. The new design is
not better than the previous, it's
just different. But they improved the
code a lot. They included all the
things that were 'missing': more
fonts, font sizes and a text color
editor, too. Impressive!
CONTENT: The best.
ALL IN ALL, I think R.A.W will hold
the 1st place in the Eurochart... It
is always a step (or 2) ahead of other
mags with its actuality. Lord Helmet
really heaped up the articles that the
scene likes!
